Replacing bottom bracket bearings
Which bearings in your bike undergo the most stress? One of these, for sure, are the bottom bracket bearings. The load on these bearings is severe -- not only because of body weight, riding out of your saddle when going uphill, but also because of the impact from stones, rocks and tree root passages. And because these bearings are close to the ground they are especially exposed to dirt, mud and water. In most cases the first indications of wear is a cracking noise which, on further investigation, reveals bearing damage. Therefore, you should change your bearings regularly or, even better, just use the best bearings to begin with.
